Elevate your everyday style with timeless beauty and elegance

Gold Jewelry

Gold jewelry holds a timeless allure, and it is also known as an expensive type of metal. But today, we also have a more affordable option we can add to our collection which is Gold Vermeil. Through the time of innovation, Vermeil came and continues to give quality and elegance without compromising on the value. Let’s talk about 18k Gold Vermeil Jewelry and discover its exquisite quality.

What is 18k Gold Vermeil?

This type of material is made of Solid 925 Sterling Silver for durability and plated with a thick layer of 18k Gold Vermeil for the Gold appearance. Vermeil has specific requirements to be classified as ‘Gold Vermeil’ on a legal standard.

  • Vermeil must be coated with a thick layer of 18k Gold
  • The base metal has to be made of solid 925 sterling silver
  • The gold coating should be at least 2.5 microns thick and made of 18 Karat Gold. But – we’re going to tell you a secret, our Gold Vermeil is at least 3 microns thick and we can also offer 5-micron thickness. We want to offer the best quality to our customers

We know this might be quite a lot of information for you to digest. So to summarise all of this for you and to answer your questions – YES, Gold Vermeil is, in essence, real gold. As we have mentioned vermeil is a combination of solid sterling silver as its base metal to ensure its real value over time and it’s coated with real 18k Gold.

How it differs from other types of Gold?

You might be wondering how Gold Vermeil differs from other Gold jewelry such as Gold Plated, Solid Gold, and Gold Filled. We’re happy to help you figure that out in the simplest possible way. Let’s start first by identifying each characteristic.

  • Solid Gold, comes in different grades depending on how many other alloys are mixed in the Gold. The most commercial grade is 14k Gold (58% Gold, 42% other alloys), the most recommended is 18k Gold (75% Gold, 25% other alloys), and pure gold would be marked as 24k (100% Gold). The more gold there is, the more expensive your jewelry will be. Some people often opt for cheaper gold options such as 9k Gold (37.5% Gold, 62.5% other alloys) - this metal may sound intriguing as it's still called "Solid Gold", however, we'd always recommend Gold Vermeil over lower grade Solid Gold as this type of Gold is not so good for your skin and tarnishes very quickly.
  • Not everyone is familiar with this but let’s talk about Gold filled – when you hear the name, it might be kinda tricky to differentiate it from Solid Gold, but it doesn’t literally mean “filled with Gold”, it just means filled with any other metal. Typically it is coated with a thick layer of Gold BUT compared to Gold Vermeil (where the base metal must be precious Silver), for Gold Filled the base metal is usually made of cheaper industrial alloys (brass, copper).
  • And lastly, the Gold plated option. As we have mentioned, Gold Vermeil has a standard thickness of gold coating and it has to be over a precious Solid Silver base, the difference with Gold plating is that it has a thinner coat of gold, and the base is also made with non-precious types of metals.
